The Raiders have officially named Mike McCoy as their assistant head coach, marking his return to prominence on their sideline.
With 23 years of NFL coaching experience behind him, McCoy brings a wealth of knowledge to Las Vegas. His résumé includes a stint as a head coach with the Chargers from 2013 to 2016, and prominent roles as an offensive coordinator for the Broncos (2009–2012, 2017) and the Cardinals (2018).
In his years as an offensive coordinator and head coach, McCoy’s units produced top-10 finishes on offense three times, and they boasted a top-10 passing attack in six different seasons. His career also includes a lengthy nine-season period on the Panthers’ offensive staff (2000–2008).
McCoy moves to Las Vegas after serving with the Titans as a senior offensive assistant, a position that led to his interim head coach role for the final 11 games of 2025. Under his guidance, Cam Ward threw 323 completions on 540 attempts, setting a franchise rookie record with 3,169 passing yards, along with 15 touchdowns and seven interceptions.
In sum, the Raiders are betting on McCoy’s extensive play-calling and leadership experience to shape their offense and coaching staff this season. Do you think his track record as a coordinator and interim head coach signals a strong fit for Las Vegas, or are there concerns fans should weigh about translating his past success to the current roster?
